The story behind the period.
Founder Series — Object 01Before OPTIMISM. was a fashion house, it was a way of surviving.
Trevor Thomas learned that lesson before he was old enough to understand what survival meant.
At eleven days old, he underwent open-heart surgery. Before he could walk. Before he could speak. Before he could dream about what his life might become.
His life began with a scar and a second chance.
He survived.
Childhood was a mix of empty fields, Friday-night lights and changing addresses. Stability came and went. The one constant was the urge to make something.
He learned early that life could become uncertain very quickly. That certainty is not something you are handed. It is something you decide to build.
That lesson became the foundation of the house.
Empty fields.
Friday-night lights.
Skateboards.
A notebook on the passenger seat.
Thirteen.
A traumatic brain injury put Trevor in the ICU for five days.
Five days beneath hospital lights. Five days where tomorrow was no longer something to take for granted.
He survived.
Again.
- Skateboards.
- Sneakers.
- Clothing.
- Design.
He wanted to skate. He wanted to design shoes. He wanted to make things.

It seemed insignificant at the time. Looking backward, it wasn’t.
Fashion gave him the ability to decide how he entered the world.
Door after door.
No after no.
Sunburnt streets. A car with the windows down. A notebook on the passenger seat. Summer heat, late evenings, worn sneakers.
Door-to-door sales taught him communication, resilience and confidence — and how to keep walking after somebody says no.
It was a bridge. Not the destination.

Brandon.
Trevor’s brother died.
There are moments that divide a life into before and after. This was one of them.
Afterward, success meant something different. Money, sales numbers and somebody else’s definition of achievement all felt smaller than they used to.
Eventually he left door-to-door sales. The creative dream he had carried since childhood came back — not as a hobby, but as something he needed to do.
2022
OPTIMISM.
was born.
Not because life had been easy. Because it hadn’t.
OPTIMISM.
The name is a decision. The period matters. It makes the word definitive.
Not maybe.
Not when everything gets better.
Not if everything works out.
OPTIMISM. Period.
A belief that yesterday does not get to own tomorrow.
A belief that pain and beauty can occupy the same life.
A belief that what nearly destroys you can eventually become material for something meaningful.
Fatherhood changed the scale of everything.
Suddenly the future had a face.
Creating stopped being only about proving something to himself. Someone was watching what he did with the life he had been given.
By twenty-six, the same life that had been tested early had also produced a company, a family and a clear sense of purpose.
The hard parts did not disappear. They became material.
Before OPTIMISM., life had already contained:
A heart operation.
A changing childhood.
A brain injury.
The loss of a brother.
A new career.
A new company.
Fatherhood.
Failure.
Love.
Creation.
And he was still here.
Trevor believes his life has been saved more than once.
Jesus saved him. Carried him through circumstances he couldn’t have navigated alone. Brought him out the other side whole.
Today he lives a healthy, sober life.
“I’ve been given another day. I want to do something meaningful with it.”
OPTIMISM. couldn’t just become another logo on another shirt. It had to mean something.
- Fashion.
- Photography.
- Film.
- Objects.
- Spaces.
- Technology.
- Experiences.
- Storytelling.
Everything becomes another opportunity to create something that makes somebody feel something.
People deserve reasons to believe in tomorrow.
We want people to walk into rooms feeling confident. To wear something that makes them stand differently. To create. To take chances. To love deeply. To keep moving when life becomes difficult.
And to look good while doing it.
A more hopeful world.
A more confident world.
A better-dressed world.
A note from Trevor.
OPTIMISM. exists because I believe difficult seasons can become meaningful work. The hard parts of a life do not have to be erased; they can be translated into something useful for others.
I don’t want this house to exist simply to sell clothing. I want to spend my life creating. I want to build things people remember. I want to make beautiful products, tell meaningful stories, employ incredible people, serve others, provide for the people I love, and leave the world with a little more hope than I found it.
The challenges behind us are not the story. What we choose to build from them is.
I love creating. I love people. I love possibility. And I still wake up believing something incredible can happen next.
That’s what optimism means here. Not pretending difficulty doesn’t exist. Seeing it clearly and choosing to walk toward the light anyway.
